Rules and Laws

This is an interesting pattern, which may only show itself behind closed doors. It may be seen in many areas of the narcissist’s life, from the laws of the land to the laws of physics and biology; from moral ‘rules’ to the rules of the road. It often results in risk-taking behaviours which others are carelessly subjected to, such as risky driving and drug taking.

Narcissists may insist upon having unprotected sex with multiple partners and not care about pregnancy or health risks (thus disregarding the laws of biology). Multiple pregnancy terminations may even be a telltale sign of narcissistic abuse, where the narcissist has refused to use contraception. Often reckless driving shows a disregard for the laws of physics. Some may even drive whilst banned or without a driver’s license or insurance - all very worrying when you have children with a narcissist.

If you have divorced a narcissist you will have been subjected to woefully incomplete financial paperwork being presented to the court, as a result of the rules not applying to your narcissistic ex. You may have realised, post-divorce, that your ex is happily flouting the very court orders that you thought would protect you.

If it serves a narcissist and doesn’t tarnish their reputation, they will lie, cheat, steal and ruthlessly exploit others, violating whatever code needs to be violated. Rules, laws and morals simply don’t apply to them.
